At Northern Virginia Community College, we are committed to giving every student the support and services they need to pursue their college education and take advantage of all available opportunities. No qualified student with a documented disability shall be denied access to or participation in the services, programs and activities of the college.
If you have a disability, find out what services are available to you.
Who Is Eligible
You are eligible for disability services if you have a documented physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities. To qualify for disability services, you must provide clear and specific evidence that a qualified professional has established a formal diagnosis of a disability. Review carefully the Policy for Documentation of a Disability.
What Services Are Available
The accommodations available to you will depend on the nature of your disability and will be determined on a case-by-case basis by your campus disabilities services counselor. Accommodations include but are not limited to: sign language interpreters, note takers, assistive technology equipment and classroom accommodations. For more information about NOVA’s services, review the Information for Students with Disabilities brochure.
What Additional Resources Are Available
Handicapped parking spaces are available at each campus. Please contact the Department of Motor Vehicles to obtain a permit.
How to Begin
Complete the Students With Disabilities Intake Packet and then contact the campus counselor in Disability Support Services to schedule an appointment at least two weeks before the start of your first semester. Bring all documentation of your disability to that appointment. Acceptable documentation includes but is not limited to educational psychology testing and pertinent medical reports. All documentation must be no more than three years old. During the visit, the counselor will review your documentation and help you to complete the Accommodations Request Form.
